Aphrodisiacs have been used for centuries to add some pep to your engine for those nights of passion with your loved one. We here at Pleasing Partners know all about the herbs that get you in the mood, but what’s for dinner? What food is best served for an evening full of saucy fun?
Let us take a peek at some tried and tested morsels chock full of all the right things to get the blood pumping and skin tingling.


Oysters.


Not everyone’s cup of tea, but these odd little morsels of the sea boost dopamine in both men and women leading to an increase in libido. The fact they are so full of zinc doesn’t hurt the old love juices from flowing either. Reportedly used by some of history’s most romantic and seductive figures, from Cleopatra to Casanova. Maybe the way they look and slide down the throat also has a small part to play in the effect they have. An all round sensual experience.

Dates.


Sweet, sticky and delicious. What more does a girl need? Or a guy for that matter. Dates are very rich in amino acids which increase sexual stamina. They are popular aphrodisiacs in many parts of Africa (why am I thinking about the Horn of Good Hope now? Or did I just make that up?) and help stimulate an oxytocin like response, which is the ‘bonding hormone’ that makes you like touching and cuddling. In general eating dates makes you feel happy and sociable which is always good when it comes to getting jiggy with it.


Figs.


The humble fig leaf may have been worn as man’s first piece of clothing if our Holy books are to be believed, but eaten it offers even more benefits then just covering up your dangly bits. They contain amino acids, vitamins and are just out right scrummy. Exotic and erotic in both appearance and aroma. Feed them to your loved one and watch the sweet, red juice drip down their chin. Try licking it off. What did I tell ya? Yummy.

Cocoa.


Now, you may not know this about me but I am a bonafide chocoholic. My day would not be complete without some delicious organic, raw, dark, low sugar, high vitamin chocolate. I make it myself. The fabulous thing about chocolate is not only can you add herbal aphrodisiacs to the mix when making it yourself, such as IGNITE, but in and of itself it is full of mood enhancing and stamina increasing elements. It contains the chemical known as phenylethlamine, that stimulates a sense of excitement and well being. Plus, it just tastes divine! A study found that women who ate chocolate everyday had a more active sex life. BONUS!

Pumpkin Seeds.


Yes, that’s right, the humble pumpkin seed, you know the bit most people throw away, is a source of tons of amazing vitamins and minerals to pump up your heat between the sheets. Just like oysters, but better for vegans, they are bursting with zinc, which is great for men and their little swimmers. They are also loaded with the libido firing vitamins B, C, D, E, K, and minerals such as calcium, potassium, niacin, magnesium and phosphorous. They also help fight candida and other nasties making them a must have in every lovers diet.

Now the next one might surprise you a little…..


Celery.


Yes, that’s right, that little crunchy stick of delight that often gets dipped into other dreamy foods such as hummus. A phallic god amongst other less erect vegetables, celery aids men in producing sexy pheromones making them appear more attractive to the female (or perhaps male) persuasion. These little seeds can sometimes be expensive compared to other seeds but well worth the money. Absolutely delicious plus good for your health. Rocket.


One of my favourite salad leaves due to it’s amazingly peppery taste, rocket was once seen as a conception aid in ancient Rome and Egypt. It was associated with Priapus, a minor Roman god of fertility. If it was good enough for them, it’s good enough for me. Packed full of nutrients needed for a healthy sex life, such as magnesium, potassium, and our old friend zinc again. Maybe this is the reason rabbits are so good at making rabbit babies? Who knows. All I know is add this healthy green leaf to your diet to stay on top of your game.


Personally, I prefer also to keep all my food organic to prevent toxic overload from harmful chemicals and disrupting hormones. But I’ll leave that up to you.
